505 Games and SONKA are gearing up to cast a spell on spring with the launch of *Book of Demons*, a deck-building hack-and-slash crafted by Thing Trunk. The game hits Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Thursday, April 30, and players can jump into the adventure early on Switch by pre-ordering from the Nintendo eShop, where they also snag a 10% discount.

*Book of Demons* is a hybrid adventure that’s part homage to classic hack-and-slash titles and part clever parody of the genre. Instead of wielding swords or axes, players use magical cards to battle hordes of darkness in procedurally generated dungeons beneath the ominous Old Cathedral. The game emphasizes strategic deck management—players tailor their hands with spells, items, and skills, upgrading as they go to face increasingly tough enemies and epic boss fights across three distinct underground realms.

The game’s engine, Flexiscope, introduces a neat feature that’s perfect for busy gamers: it learns your pace of play and lets you divide your sessions accordingly, estimating how long each will take.

There’s plenty here to sink your teeth into. Players can choose from three classes—Warrior, Rogue, or Mage—each with their own unique set of 40 cards, including legendary variants. The game offers diverse monster families with over 70 variations, each with custom traits and mechanics, making every run unpredictable. For those craving a tougher challenge, a roguelike mode ramps up the stakes, and four unlockable endgame difficulties add replayability after completing the main campaign.

*Book of Demons* has racked up several awards, including Indie of the Year Top 10 (Indie DB 2017), Best Game Art at Casual Connect Tel Aviv 2016, a Digital Dragons Best Indie Game award, and a Pixel Award finalist nod at Pixel Heaven 2016.
